What they often don’t have is a clear understanding of the decisions they may face, how to communicate their preferences, or what postpartum recovery actually looks like. That’s what these sessions are for: one-on-one education covering birth preparation, hospital advocacy, postpartum mental health, warning signs, and support planning.

CDC data shows that most pregnancy-related deaths occur after delivery, exposing critical gaps in postpartum monitoring, education, and continuity of care.

of pregnancy-related deaths occurred after the day of delivery, during a period when structured clinical monitoring largely ends.

of pregnancy-related deaths were determined to be preventable.

occurred 1–6 days postpartum, during one of the earliest and most vulnerable stages of recovery.

Postpartum Data Project

The Postpartum Data Project is an independent data initiative collecting anonymous experiences from mothers and healthcare professionals to document gaps in perinatal education, support, and care. Findings will help inform consumer education, advocacy, and future work with healthcare organizations. Submissions are always open.
